About the Event
In observance of Black History Month, we'll be reading another work covering the life of a Black trans pioneer- this time the memoir Redefining Realness by Janet Mock.
Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More is the 2014 memoir by Black and Native Hawaiian transgender writer, television director and producer, and activist Janet Mock. Her work includes the groundbreaking TV show Pose, two memoirs, and the social media campaign #GirlsLikeUs,Through all of her work, Mock has been an outspoken advocate for trans rights and representation.
In Redefining Realness, Mock documents her early life and transition and explores the different intersections that shape her journey. Beautifully written and thoughtfully structured, this work is both an incredible read and an important piece of history.
The Pride y Paginas Book Club will be meeting on Wednesday February 25th, 2026 at Bandera Coffee in Harlingen.
